Rhaenyra’s lady in waiting Elinda Massey and the serving woman Dyana are hatching a plan on behalf of the spymaster Mysaria.
In the most recent episode of House of the Dragon, “Regent,” Rhaenyra Targaryen is grasping for ways to get a leg up in her war against her half-brother Aegon Targaryen, who’s contesting her claim to the Iron Throne. (He’s also currently bedridden with horrible dragon burns, but his younger, even less stable brother Aemond is managing things in his absence.) She’s taking it on the chin lately, what with her dragonriding advisor Rhaenys going down in flames last week.
Rhaenrya’s advisor Mysaria recommends a different approach. We don’t hear the extent of Mysaria’s plan, but she seems to want to take advantage of the fact that the people of King’s Landing are upset with the state of things: Corlys Velaryon’s blockade of the city is cutting off their food supply, and now they’re afraid that Rhaenyra is going to firebomb them with her dragons. To that end, she and Rhaenyra dispatch Rhaenyra’s lady in waiting, a woman named Elinda Massey, into the city.
Towards the end of the episode, we see that Elinda meets up with another woman. This is Dyana, a serving woman we saw working in a tavern in the third episode of the season. In the first season, she worked in the Red Keep, and was sexually assaulted by King Aegon himself. And apparently at some point she became one of Mysaria’s many informants.
Again, we don’t exactly what plan these two are going to carry out, but we do know that the people of King’s Landing are on edge. And in the trailer for the next episode, we see a riot break out in the streets of the city. I wouldn’t be surprised if Elinda and Dyana have something to do with starting it.
The next episode of House of the Dragon airs Sunday, July 21 on HBO and Max.
